If the job is changing you, your next step is to begin understanding why.
Unfortunately, it’s normal. The job changes you.
A combination of things like compassion fatigue, moral injury, and trauma can all come together to change the way you react to the world around you.
This doesn't make you an asshole. This makes you a human who does a hard job. But it also doesn't mean you wanna keep acting like this.
The options below will help you understand why you respond the way you do and give you tools to respond in a way that you actually want.
What’s Your Next Step?
Take a moment and decide how much time and energy you're willing to invest right now and choose the option that feels right for you.
This option is free, has no interaction with me, and requires very little time.
This week, make a note in your phone any time you don't feel like yourself. When you feel snappy or irritable, just jot it down.
If you can, take a second to think about your day. What do you notice? Were you on shift or off? Were the kids in activities? Practice noting what's around the response that showed up.
This doesn't mean you're off the hook. It just means we're starting to gather the data.
This option is a free email tool. I’ll send you short email lessons that take less than 10 minutes per day.
Ready to do a little more but not quite ready for a full commitment?
The Protected Home Project is a free one month email challenge. Throughout the week I'll send you small lessons on things like moral injury, compassion fatigue, and how to have a real conversation.
You'll also start setting some goals for moving forward. Totally free. Just sign up.
This option includes options for more interaction with me and a higher investment of time and money.
If you're ready to get in and do the actual work, this is it.
Relationship Endurance is my eight week course that teaches you a specific, practical system for managing both your individual mental health and the health of your relationship. Dripped into your inbox day by day.
